| Maintaining your log Structure... Treat your wood with tender loving care. Wood homes are not eternal. They can last many, many decades and retain their good looks if they are cleaned and protected regularly. The worst thing to do is nothing at all. Wood homes have to be washed each year, sometimes twice depending on the locations for example: along gravel roads, high traffic areas, or wet, damp locations. How? Simply hose down the building with ordinary tap water to moisten pollen, dust and foreign debris. Using a soft bristle brush just like washing a car, scrub the entire building, using only ordinary dish soap and water, rinse thoroughly with fresh water. Simple, easy and a must. No abrasive cleaners, chemicals or pressure washer needed. Remember, dirt on wood is like salt on a car. Protect your investment a simple maintenance wash can go a long way. The worst deterioration problems come from dirt and moisture getting into wood which may leach out and allow the wood to be colonized by wood inhabiting fungi. This is when your wood building starts getting that black appearance. This is a live fungi. Keep the wood washed and these micro-organisms in check! | |
